Got the ‘Sunday Scaries’?
“The Sunday Scaries” are feelings of anxiety and dread that, for some, occur every Sunday. They often start in the late afternoon and continue on into the evening. For some people these feelings can start as soon as they get out of bed.
Reset and “Soothe Your Soul” with a Sunday Soother
People often describe ‘Sunday Scaries’ as a ‘pit in the bottom of their stomachs’ that grows as Sunday progresses or an ever-present anxiety that lingers throughout the day.
The Sunday Scaries can snowball into physical manifestations such as:
Racing heart
Sweating
Difficulty breathing
Trembling
Upset stomach
Sleep difficulties
Headache
Why scary Sundays are so common
The Sunday Scaries are triggered by the end of the weekend approaching and our anticipation of a return to work. When people start to make their ‘to-do lists’ or think about upcoming responsibilities, the transition from relaxation to ‘work mode’ can be tough.
During the weekend, your mental load is significantly lowered so it’s easy to let your guard down. It takes a lot of mental energy to prep for upcoming tasks. Some of our Sunday scaries might stem from our brains gearing up to access the parts that we don’t use much during the weekend.
“The Sunday Scaries are common. Most people experience them from time to time.
